Be Bold

So you know those times when you get enough courage to be bold and do something and it all works out? Yep, that happened yesterday. So I had to work the night shift yesterday and it was super slow. No admits. No Discharges. 10 patients. Super easy breezy. So I had all the time in the world to write my boss about my personal goal for the Pediatric Unit this year. Naturally, I was in one of my moods where I felt like I had nothing to lose.

So this is what I wrote:

Goal: My personal goal for this year is to continue to grow professionally with Intermountain Healthcare (IHC). Seeing that I will be graduating in April in Nursing, I would like to continue employment with IHC as a registered nurse. It is my goal to obtain a nursing job by August 2012. Specifically, I would like to obtain a nursing job in the Pediatrics, NICU, or Labor and Delivery departments at UVRMC
Regarding my personal goal, I was wondering if you knew of or foresee a possible need for nurses at UVRMC Pediatrics between April and August? I would love to continue working in this department. I have loved being a part of the UVRMC Pediatric team and would love to be a part of this team as a registered nurse. I also have interest in working as a master float employee so that I could further my nursing skills in Pediatircs, NICU, and Mom/Baby.
Thanks,
Kellie Prusse
Long story short: I was called by my manager yesterday to inform me that she was ecstatic that I wanted a job there and that she wanted me as an employee!!! I think I just learned a very important lesson. Being bold, you get what you want. If you don't, someone else will take it before you have a chance.

The Infinite Power of Hope

"Hope has the power to fill our lives with happiness..." -Dieter F. Uchtdorf-

The Infinite Power of Hope (Dieter F. Uchtdorf- October 2008)

I absolutely love this talk. It has really been a strength to me.  My friend reminded me of this talk and he really influenced my thoughts, actions, and attitudes toward the future. It was such a reminder of how we need to be patient. Hope you enjoy it too!!! Never give up!!!

Southern Hospitality

So for those of you who know me, you know that I love a guy with southern hospitality. The southern accent doesn't hurt either. My roommates and I all went out to lunch at Red Robin yesterday and one of the waiters was from Dallas, had an accent, and was pretty cute. My roommate did some research and was informed with he was engaged. But, just in case it did not work out, she was kind enough to write this note to him and leave my name/phone #. I think I should start to thank her for why I am not married. Anyways, although slightly embarrassing, it was pretty hilarious and he was flattered. Gotta love roommates that have no shame.

Big Decisions...

So I made a really big decision last night. With a lot of thought, consideration, anxiety, and chocolate. I have decided to pursue moving to Washington, DC after graduation in April. I have been thinking about it for about a year now and I feel like that is the place I should pursue the most. I thought about Southern California, Arizona, Colorado, and the all famous South Provo, UT. My thoughts kept on going to one phrase: "If you don't do anything different, nothing is going to change." So it is time to make some changes to go in a different direction. So here it goes! I am going to give it everything I've got. Watch out DC. You're in for a real treat. You're love and support would be greatly appreciated. ;0) Here I go= adventure!!!

Step By Step

This song completely portrays every emotion I am feeling right now. R.I.P Whitney. You sing what I feel.

Well, there's a bridge and there's a river
That I still must cross
As I'm going on my journey
Oh, I might be lost

And there's a road I have to follow
A place I have to go
Well, no one told me just how to get there
But when I get there I'll know 'cause I'm taking it

Step by step, bit by bit
Stone by stone, yeah, brick by brick
Step by step, day by day
Mile by mile

And this old road is rough and ruin
So many dangers along the way
So many burdens might fall upon me
So many troubles that I have to face

Oh, but I won't let my spirit fail me
Oh, I won't let my spirit go
Until I get to my destination
I'm gonna take it slow because I'm making in a

Step by step, bit by bit
Stone by stone, yeah, brick by brick
Step by step, day by day
Mile by mile, go your way, go your way

Say baby, don't give up
You've got to hold on to what you've got
Oh, baby, don't give up
You've go to keep on moving, don't stop, yeah, yeah

I know you're hurting
And I know you're blue
I know you're hurting
But don't let the bad things get to you, I'm taking it

Step by step, bit by bit
Stone by stone, yeah, brick by brick
Step by step, day by day
Mile by mile, go your way, go your way

I'm takin' it step by step, bit by bit
Stone by stone, yeah, brick by brick
Step by step, day by day
Mile by mile, go your way, go your way

China is too far away...

The Power of Music

Tonight was such an honor to be with my best friends. Kaitlyn Maguet, Caitlin Hauser Salmon, Jessica Hauser Eraso, Tuni Rose, and Helen Levy. Our favorite and amazing Bishop Jerry Henley is getting released Feb. 19th from our ward. We have been with him from the beginning. He has gotten us through some rough and exciting times in ouR lives. We all also served as Relief Society Presidents under him and I have to say that was one of the biggest blessings in my life. I am forever grateful for that opportunity he gave me. We are all singing together for his release and it is going to be so amazing. We all have such a huge love for music and especially the spirit it can bring into your life. We are singing "The Olive Tree." It sounded amazing and I can't wait! I was blown away just practicing it. Here is a recording of the song. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqSWykqmsCM

The Original Avenues #312

The Vow

It's that time of the year again. Love is in the air. My roommates, Erica, Kaitlyn, and I went to the midnight showing of "The Vow." I have to admit. I LOVED IT. There were some tears, some laughs, and a good looking man. What else does a girl need? Food. That is where the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and Dove Chocolate come in. haha. I would recommend it. Definitely worth the late night. I will pay for it tomorrow. My favorite part though were the five guys in a theater with 200 girls. Love these gals.

Primary Children's Medical Center

So for the past five weeks, I have been giving up my Saturdays to go up to Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC) to do nursing clinical rotations there. I had to wake up at 4am every Saturday to get up there for report by 5:30am. It has been one of the roughest but most rewarding experiences. Some nights I would only get 2-4 hours of sleep before I had to get up. It was tough but worth the amazing experiences that I have had there. Every Saturday I come home with a new outlook on life and the experiences that come our way. Children have so much resiliency. I spent my rotations on the infant and child surgical units and then had the opportunity to be on the oncology and immune-compromised (ICS) unit this last week. One of my patients suffered from Leukemia. I was really nervous to go the ICS unit because I thought that I could probably not handle it emotionally. The children there, although severely ill, have so much life and optimism. Everything that I have been worried about in my life seemed to disappear as I realized how much life there is to live and love. I have so much admiration for these little children. It reminded me why I want to be a nurse. It is to help those who cannot help themselves, encourage people to continue on during hard times, and share my love for people, children in particular. I love pediatrics so much and the opportunity I have to interact with these strong, resilient, and forgiving little ones. We often forget that there are more important things in life to be concerned about. But more importantly, wonderful things to live for and appreciate. So grateful for this opportunity. I am going to miss PCMC but not the 4am wake up time!

And since it is Sunday, I have been listening to this song all day. I love it. It is my favorite primary hymn. Thank you to David Archuletta for recording an amazing rendition of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_NXNX3M9as&feature=related

Go Forth & Serve

I could not have been blessed with greater examples in my life than my Mom and Dad. They are full of life, light, happiness, and charity. They just left again last week to go back to China. They are changing lives. They are living the gospel. What better example is there? I hope to be able to influence others the way they have.

Half Marathon- Hobbler Half

Merry Christmas!!!

My roommates are beautiful aren't they??? We took this picture at The Riverwoods outdoor mall in Provo. Yes, we did tell Santa what we wanted for Christmas. Erica wants to get married by August, Brittany wants to be a boxer, and I want world peace.  ;0) We'll just have to see if he follows through this year.

Operation Mickey Mouse

Some people study during finals. Some people go to DISNEYLAND. This was seriously one of the funnest trips I have ever been on. I mean really though. Put 8 hilarious and good looking people together and you get a magical weekend. Three things you must do at Disneyland: 1. See World of Color at California Adventure. Seriously my favorite part of the trip. SO AMAZING!!! 2. Go during the holidays. The decorations are beautiful. Fake snowfall at the end of the fireworks show while "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" is playing. Pure magic. 3. Eat at the Blue Bayou. It is the restaurant that is inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Best food I have ever had. By the way, I got all A's on my finals. Well worth the trip.

Hocus Pocus

Trick or Treat? Treat please! I went on a villain/assassin date with my friend Clark. Naturally, we went as Mr. & Mrs. Smith because he looks like Brad Pitt and I look like Angelina. It was such a blast. We killed everyone!
